How do we understand the struggle with sin as Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Christians struggle with sin due to their dual nature but are assured that sin will not sever their relationship with God.

The struggle with sin is a common experience for all Christians, reflecting the ongoing tension between the old sinful nature and the new nature gifted through Christ. As mentioned in 1 John 1:8, 'if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.' This indicates that even believers are not free from sin. However, this does not negate their status as children of God, for as John 10:29 promises, 'no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.' Though sin may cause believers to lose joy and fellowship—similar to David’s plea in Psalm 51:12 to restore the joy of salvation—it does not destroy their sonship. Their salvation remains secure, upheld by God's eternal sovereign grace.
