How does affliction strengthen our faith?

Answered in 1 source

Affliction strengthens our faith by forcing us to depend on God's promises and recognizing His power in our weaknesses.

Paul teaches that affliction can drive believers to profound depths of faith. In 2 Corinthians 1:8-10, Paul recounts how their severe afflictions made them feel as if they were sentenced to death, leading them to trust not in themselves, but in God who raises the dead. This teaches us that our trials can deepen our trust in God's faithfulness and power to sustain and deliver us from hardship, significantly increasing our faith through the lived experience of His promises being fulfilled. Rather than allowing affliction to discourage us, we can view it as an opportunity for God to demonstrate His might.
