How does bearing fruit show that we are disciples of Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Bearing fruit demonstrates our discipleship by reflecting Christ's character and obeying His commands (John 15:5).

In John 15:5, Jesus states, 'I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me, ye can do nothing.' This highlights that true discipleship is evidenced by the fruit produced through a vital connection to Christ. Disciples live in obedience to His commands and emulate His character. As they produce fruit—spiritual qualities and good deeds—they not only prove their allegiance to Christ but also reflect His transformative work in their lives. The fruit serves as outward evidence of the inward change brought about by grace, marking them as disciples who actively demonstrate their faith through love and obedience.
