How does Christ take away our sins?

Answered in 1 source

Christ takes away our sins by bearing them on the cross as our substitute.

In John 1:29, when John the Baptist declares Jesus to be the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, he emphasizes the redemptive act of substitution that Jesus fulfilled. Christ, the sinless one, carried our sins in His own body to the cross (1 Peter 2:24), serving as our scapegoat who removes our transgressions far from us (Psalm 103:12). This act of bearing our sins not only signifies their removal but also illustrates the depth of God's grace—God laid the iniquity of us all upon Him (Isaiah 53:6). As such, every believer can be assured that their sins are not only forgiven but also forgotten by a holy God, as they are cast behind His back in the depth of the sea (Micah 7:19).
