How does conviction of sin lead to genuine faith?

Answered in 1 source

Conviction of sin reveals our need for a Savior, directing us to place our faith in Christ for salvation.

Genuine faith is born out of a heart that has been profoundly convicted of sin. Such conviction makes us acutely aware of our inability to save ourselves and the gravity of our sinful state. Only when we recognize our sinfulness can we truly grasp the beauty of Christ’s redemptive work. The Scriptures reaffirm this connection, as all invitations to come to Christ presuppose a recognition of guilt. As seen in Isaiah 1:18 and Matthew 11:28, the call to seek Christ is accompanied by an understanding of our dire condition. The realization of our sin leads us to turn to Jesus, placing our faith in Him as the only remedy for our guilt, thus fostering an authentic and lasting faith rooted in grace.
