How does faith affect our adoption as children of God?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is the means through which we experience the adoption as children of God, rooted in His prior choice of us.

Ephesians 1 emphasizes that our adoption as children of God was established in eternity before we came to faith. Our faith in Christ serves as the evidence and assurance of this reality. It assures us that what God has chosen and accomplished in Christ applies to us personally. Through faith, we cry out to God as our Father, and it is through this relationship that we find our identity in Christ. Thus, our faith is not a means to earn our adoption, but a response to the grace already given to us through the grace of God’s sovereign choice and Christ’s redemptive work.
