How does faith relate to our salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is the result of salvation, provided as a gift from God, not a prerequisite.

In Reformed theology, faith is viewed as the result of God's sovereign work of salvation rather than a precursor. John 5:24 states, 'He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life.' This indicates that believing comes from hearing God's Word, which He enables in those whom He elects to save. Furthermore, Ephesians 2:8-9 asserts that 'for by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.' Here, we see that faith itself is a divine gift, illustrating that our trust in Christ is a response to what God has already accomplished. This perspective frees believers from the burden of self-reliance and emphasizes God's sovereignty in the salvation process.
