How does faith relate to salvation according to the Bible?

Answered in 3 sources

Faith is the means through which we receive God's grace for salvation, exemplified by looking to Christ.

Faith is central to salvation as it is the appropriate response to God's revelation in Jesus Christ. In Numbers 21:8-9, the Israelites were required to look upon the brazen serpent to be saved from the venom of the fiery serpents; this act of looking symbolizes trusting in God’s provided remedy. Similarly, in John 3:15-16, Jesus explains that belief in Him is essential for eternal life. Faith, therefore, is not merely intellectual assent but a personal trust in Christ as the only Savior. It acknowledges our complete reliance on God's provision for salvation through grace alone.
