How does fear of rejection affect Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Fear of rejection can lead Christians to wear a mask of pretense, hindering authentic relationships and true faith.

Fear of rejection is a powerful motivator that often influences how believers present themselves within the church. Many are tempted to engage in pretense to gain approval or avoid criticism from others. This fear can keep individuals from acknowledging their true struggles and sinfulness before God and the community of faith. In John 5:42-44, Jesus points out that seeking honor from one another can blind us to God's approval. When Christians are more concerned about human judgment than divine acceptance, they may fall into hypocrisy, forfeiting the grace that comes through honesty before God. Consequently, overcoming this fear involves understanding that true acceptance comes from being beloved children of God, irrespective of societal expectations.
