How does following Jesus make someone perfect?

Answered in 1 source

Following Jesus allows believers to receive His righteousness, making them perfect before God.

Jesus told the rich young ruler that if he would be perfect, he must follow Him, showing that true perfection comes from a relationship with Him rather than personal merit. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21, 'For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' This teaches that believers are declared righteous not because of their actions but because they are united with Christ, who fulfills the righteous requirements of the law on their behalf. Thus, following Jesus results in believers receiving His righteousness and being considered perfect in God's sight.
