How does free will relate to salvation in Reformed theology?

Answered in 1 source

In Reformed theology, free will is understood as limited due to man's sinful nature, which necessitates God's sovereign will in salvation.

Reformed theology teaches that while humans possess a will, this will is bound and affected by sin. As noted in Romans 3:10-12, there is none who seeks after God; this demonstrates that, apart from divine intervention, our wills are not inclined toward God. This is why God must initiate the work of salvation. The concept of 'free will' is often misrepresented. It does not mean we can choose God independently; rather, it means our choices are aligned with our nature, which is sinful. True freedom is found in being made alive in Christ, enabling our hearts to genuinely will to seek and trust in Him.
