How does God's grace work through affliction?

Answered in 1 source

God's grace operates in and through affliction to mold and guide believers toward spiritual maturity.

Afflictions in a believer's life are not devoid of purpose; rather, they are instruments of God's grace at work in us. Hebrews 12:6 teaches that the Lord disciplines those He loves, as His chastening ultimately leads to spiritual growth and maturity. This concept is depicted in the imagery of a garden in Song of Solomon 4:16, where the believer is compared to a garden nurtured by divine care. The north winds of discipline serve to strengthen the roots of faith, while the south winds of comfort remind us of His eternal mercy. In both cases, grace provides sustenance through trials, fostering reliance on Christ, the true vine.
