How does God's providence relate to sin and suffering?

Answered in 1 source

God's providence does not excuse sin, but rather sovereignly uses it for His purposes.

While God is sovereign over all creation, His providence does not excuse sin; He is never the author of evil (James 1:13). Instead, God can bring good out of evil situations, as evidenced in Genesis 50:20 when Joseph tells his brothers that though they intended harm, God used it for good. Similarly, the crucifixion of Christ, orchestrated through the wicked actions of men, serves a divine purpose in salvation. Therefore, while suffering exists as a consequence of sin, God's providence ensures that He is working through these circumstances to achieve His holy plan.
