How does God's sovereignty relate to free will?

Answered in 1 source

God's sovereignty does not negate human free will; rather, it demonstrates that He orchestrates all events, including our decisions, for His divine plan.

The relationship between God's sovereignty and human free will is a profound mystery in theology. God, in His sovereignty, knows and orchestrates all events while allowing individuals to make choices. Joseph demonstrated this when he recognized that though his brothers intended harm, God used those actions for a greater purpose (Genesis 50:20). This suggests that while humans have the capacity to make real choices, those choices are ultimately within the framework of God's sovereign plan. The Bible teaches that God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), leading us to conclude that while we make choices, God is actively working through those choices to achieve His purposes.
