How does God satisfy both mercy and justice?

Answered in 1 source

God satisfies both His mercy and justice through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:5).

The tension between God's mercy and justice is a profound theological concept. God is just and cannot overlook sin, yet He is merciful and desires to forgive. This apparent contradiction is reconciled in the atonement of Jesus Christ. Isaiah 53:5 tells us that 'He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities.' Through Christ's sacrifice, God's justice was satisfied because the penalty for sin was paid in full. At the same time, His mercy is extended to those who believe in Him, allowing the guilty to receive forgiveness and reconciliation without discounting God's holy standards. Hence, in Christ, justice and mercy meet.
