How does God use afflictions for our good?

Answered in 1 source

God uses afflictions to teach us His statutes and draw us closer to Him.

God is sovereign over the afflictions we endure, as Psalm 119:71 states, 'It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes.' Afflictions serve a crucial purpose in spiritual growth; they teach us to rely on God's promises and deepen our relationship with Him. By experiencing trials, we learn about God's character and faithfulness firsthand, transforming knowledge of Scripture into lived experience. These necessary trials are measured, temporary, and designed to conform us to the likeness of Christ.
