How does God use afflictions in the lives of believers?

Answered in 1 source

God uses afflictions to refine and strengthen the faith of believers, drawing them closer to Him.

Afflictions serve as a divine means by which God refines and strengthens His children. Romans 5:3-5 speaks of rejoicing in our sufferings, which produces endurance, character, and hope. Through trials, believers may encounter a deeper reliance on God's grace, leading them to proclaim His glory even in the midst of adversity. Such experiences produce a richer faith and draw believers back to the sufficiency of Christ, allowing them to say, 'The Lord is my God' with a deeper understanding of His love and mercy.
