How does God use famine to draw us to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

God uses spiritual famine to create a hunger for Christ, our true source of life.

The sermon illustrates that before God can fulfill His promise of provision in Christ, He often must first send a spiritual famine within us—a recognition of our own poverty and need for righteousness. Just as the famine caused the people in Egypt to seek Joseph for bread, God often allows us to feel the weight of our sins and insufficiency to drive us to Christ, the true Bread of Life. When we realize our desperate state, we are prompted to go to Christ, who is always ready to open the storehouses of grace and mercy for those who come to Him in faith.
