How does Hebrews explain the purpose of the Levitical law?

Answered in 1 source

Hebrews teaches that the Levitical law served as a shadow of the true substance, which is Christ.

The book of Hebrews outlines that the Levitical law was merely a figure or a shadow of what was to come in Christ (Hebrews 9:9-10). These sacrifices and ceremonial practices were not able to perfect those who offered them; they merely pointed to the necessity of a better sacrifice. Christ entered the world to fulfill God's ultimate plan of salvation, rendering the old sacrificial system obsolete. The reality of Christ's one sacrifice, which achieved what the law could not, offers true atonement and perfects those who are sanctified (Hebrews 10:14).
