How does Jesus fulfill the righteousness of God for believers?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus fulfills the righteousness of God by living a sinless life and providing His righteousness to believers through faith (2 Corinthians 5:21).

The entirety of righteousness required by God is met in Jesus Christ. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21, 'For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.' Jesus embodies the only true righteousness, having lived a life free of sin, thus perfectly fulfilling the law. For believers, His righteousness is imputed through faith. This means that we stand before God not in our own merit, which is lacking, but clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ, enabling us to enter God's presence accepted and beloved.
