How does Jesus represent the mercy of a consuming fire?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus embodies mercy by being consumed in our place, allowing us to escape God's fiery judgment.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of God’s mercy, as depicted in various sacrificial offerings throughout Scripture. He willingly took on the wrath of God that was rightfully ours, allowing those who trust in Him to be spared from being consumed by the fire of divine judgment (2 Chronicles 6:42-7:1 shows God's acceptance of sacrifice). In this way, Christ's sacrifice becomes the ultimate demonstration of His love and mercy, as He became sin for us, covering all iniquity so we can stand justified before God without fear of consuming fire.
