How does Jesus set us free from sin?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus sets us free from sin through His atoning sacrifice and the gift of His righteousness (Romans 8:1-2).

Jesus' ability to set us free from sin is rooted in His sacrificial death and resurrection. In Romans 8:1-2, we learn, 'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.' This indicates that through faith in Christ, believers are not only justified—declared righteous—but also liberated from sin's dominion. His righteousness is imputed to us, allowing us to walk in newness of life. Moreover, Christ's ongoing intercession secures our continual freedom from the power of sin, granting us the strength to resist temptation and pursue godliness.
