How does one achieve a broken heart according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

A broken heart is achieved through recognizing our sinfulness and yielding to God's grace in humility.

Achieving a broken heart involves a conscious act of surrender and humility before God. This process begins with the realization of our own sinfulness and inability to attain righteousness on our own. As expressed in Matthew 5:3, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,' acknowledging our spiritual poverty is the first step towards a broken heart. When we come before the Lord, much like Isaiah in Isaiah 6, seeing God high and lifted up, we will inevitably declare, 'Woe is me!' for we recognize our unworthiness. True brokenness comes when we confess our sins and trust in Christ alone for our salvation, as it is through this dependency that God reshapes our hearts.
