How does one grow in understanding God’s Word?

Answered in 1 source

One grows in understanding God's Word by actively engaging with it and meditating upon its truths.

Growth in understanding God's Word requires more than passive listening; it demands a deliberate commitment to meditate on Scripture and apply its teachings. As the preacher encourages, we should take heed of what we hear (Mark 4:24) and lay it up in our hearts for future use. Philippians 4:8 also instructs believers to think on things that are true, honest, and just, which includes God's Word. This active engagement involves study, reflection, and prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to illuminate deeper meanings that can shape our lives. The more one exercises the knowledge received—by living it out and sharing it—the more growth in understanding will occur, revealing more of God's light and truth.
