How does one maintain assurance when feeling condemned?

Answered in 1 source

When feelings of condemnation arise, believers should remember that God is greater than their hearts and confess their sins to Him.

Maintaining assurance in the face of condemnation involves recognizing that our hearts can often mislead us. As articulated in 1 John 3:20, when our hearts condemn us, we must remember that 'God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.' This recognition allows us to bring our doubts and sins before God, confessing them and relying on Christ’s atoning sacrifice to cleanse us. True assurance is built on the promise that God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins when we confess them (1 John 1:9). Therefore, embracing a humble attitude in prayer and relying on God's promises helps restore our confidence and clarity in our relationship with Him.
