How does pride affect our relationship with God?

Answered in 12 sources

Pride obstructs our relationship with God, as it prevents us from recognizing our need for His grace and leads to self-deception (James 4:6).

Pride is a significant barrier in our relationship with God. As indicated in James 4:6, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, illustrating that a proud heart cannot acknowledge its need for God's mercy. When we think of ourselves as something, we fail to see our dependence on Christ and risk falling into self-deception. This self-reliance can lead to spiritual stagnation and a lack of genuine growth in grace. Instead, acknowledging our true condition fosters humility, allowing us to embrace God's grace and walk in fellowship with Him and one another.
