How does pride affect our understanding of the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

Pride can blind individuals to the truth of the gospel, leading them to distort its message.

Pride is a significant barrier to understanding and accepting the true message of the gospel. In Acts 15, the pushback against Paul and Barnabas stemmed from a sense of superiority among some Jerusalem believers, who sought to impose additional requirements on Gentile converts. This illustrates how pride can lead to a distorted view of the gospel. Instead of recognizing the inclusivity of God's grace, pride causes individuals to cling to legalistic views that exclude others. The gospel teaches that all are equally in need of grace, thus pride must be eliminated to truly grasp the nature of salvation offered through faith in Christ alone. This humility is essential for the proper reception and proclamation of the gospel.
