How does regeneration relate to knowing God?

Answered in 1 source

Regeneration is the divine act that enables a person to know God, transforming their heart, mind, and will.

Regeneration is critically linked to genuinely knowing God because it is the Holy Spirit's work that changes our hearts and makes us alive in Christ. As outlined in Romans 5, the fall of Adam impacted all humanity by introducing sin and separation from God. Thus, for anyone to truly know God, they must first undergo regeneration, which allows them to understand and accept spiritual truths. This transformation is essential because it aligns our will and affections towards God, enabling us to respond to His revelations and to seek a deeper relationship with Him. In essence, without regeneration, the capacity to know and relate to God is fundamentally compromised.
