How does self-righteousness keep us from Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Self-righteousness blinds us to our true need for Christ and makes us resistant to His saving grace.

Self-righteousness creates a false sense of security that can prevent individuals from coming to Christ. Those who see themselves as righteous often feel they have little need for a Savior, which is a dangerous mindset that can lead to eternal separation from God. In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus demonstrates how those who relied on their works rather than on Him will be turned away on judgment day. Such prideful attitudes can lead individuals to miss the gospel's message, which is that only through Christ's work can we be truly justified before God. The recognition of our sinfulness is crucial for understanding our need for the grace offered through Jesus.
