How does sin lead to a better understanding of God's grace?

Answered in 1 source

Sin reveals our need for grace, showing God’s holiness and love more clearly through redemption in Christ.

The existence of sin in humanity serves to magnify the grace of God in a way that would not be possible without it. Paul notes that 'where sin abounded, grace did much more abound' (Romans 5:20). This means that our understanding of God's mercy and grace is deepened through the awareness of our own sinfulness. As we comprehend the depth of our transgressions, we gain a greater appreciation for God's forgiveness and love through Christ. The narrative of scripture illustrates that the fall led to a greater revelation of God's attributes, particularly His grace and justice, ultimately culminating in the provision of Christ as our Redeemer. Thus, the grace of God shines even brighter against the backdrop of our sin.
