How does the ascension relate to the Holy Spirit?

Answered in 1 source

The ascension of Christ was necessary for the Holy Spirit to come and empower the church.

Christ’s ascension is directly linked to the sending of the Holy Spirit, which occurs shortly thereafter at Pentecost (Acts 2). In John 16:7, Jesus explains that it is to the disciples' advantage for Him to depart so that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, can come. This Pentecostal outpouring empowers believers for ministry, guiding and equipping the church to fulfill its mission. Thus, the ascension is not just an ending but a beginning of a new phase where the Holy Spirit indwells believers, confirming Christ's ongoing work through the Church.
