How does the blood of Christ relate to Old Testament sacrifices?

Answered in 1 source

The blood of Christ replaces Old Testament sacrifices as the ultimate and effective means of redemption.

The blood of Christ fundamentally changes the landscape of redemption compared to the Old Testament sacrifices. While the Old Testament sacrifices were necessary as types and shadows pointing to the ultimate sacrifice, they were ultimately ineffective for true redemption. Hebrews 10:4 states that it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. In contrast, the blood of Christ is described as a complete and sufficient sacrifice that once for all secures redemption for His people. The New Testament teaches that His blood fulfills the requirements of the Old Covenant and establishes the New Covenant, as shown in Luke 22:20, where Jesus refers to His blood as the blood of the new covenant. Therefore, the blood of Christ not only replaces but transcends the Old Testament sacrificial system.
