How does the concept of mercy relate to God's holiness?

Answered in 1 source

Mercy is an expression of God's holiness in that it upholds justice while providing forgiveness.

God's mercy is intrinsically linked to His holiness, as true mercy must operate within the bounds of divine justice. In Psalm 130:4, we see that forgiveness is available with Jehovah, but this forgiveness is possible because of Christ's sacrifice—where justice against sin is satisfied. Therefore, God's holiness does not negate His mercy; instead, it amplifies it by showcasing the depth of His love in providing a means for sinners to be reconciled to Him through Christ.
