How does the concept of mercy relate to God's promises?

Answered in 1 source

God's mercy undergirds His promises, allowing Him to justify and bless His people in Christ.

In Psalm 61 and throughout Scripture, mercy is closely linked to God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. Mercy allows God to act justly while providing forgiveness and grace to His people. As stated in Psalm 89:14, justice and judgment are foundational to God's throne, but mercy and truth go before Him. This means that God can be just while showing mercy, as exemplified in Christ, who fulfilled all righteousness on behalf of His people. Hence, God's mercy ensures that His promises are available, allowing believers to hope in His gift of salvation and eternal life through Christ.
