How does the doctrine of total depravity relate to our need for a Savior?

Answered in 1 source

Total depravity highlights our inability to save ourselves, underscoring our urgent need for Christ as our Savior.

The concept of total depravity teaches that every aspect of humanity is affected by sin, leaving us unable to pursue God or righteousness on our own. In Romans 3:23, it is declared that 'all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' This destruction of our nature makes it necessary for divine intervention; we cannot cure our spiritual condition through self-effort or good works. Jesus, our appointed Savior, specializes in saving those who are spiritually sick, and this needs to be recognized. It is through acknowledgment of our depraved state that we can turn to Him for healing and restoration, as He alone has the authority to cleanse and redeem us from sin.
