How does the gospel get perverted?

Answered in 1 source

The gospel is perverted when human works or additional requirements are added to the sufficiency of Christ's finished work.

In Galatians 1:6-9, Paul expresses astonishment that the Galatians are turning to a different gospel, which is not truly another. This perversion occurs when individuals teach that something must be added to Christ's sacrifice for salvation, such as rituals, laws, or personal merit. This fundamentally alters the gospel from a message of grace to a system of works, undermining the grace of God and leading to condemnation, as Paul pronounces a curse upon anyone preaching a corrupted gospel. Christians are called to recognize these dangers and adhere strictly to the free and complete grace of Christ, understanding that any addition compromises the essence of the gospel.
