How does the gospel provide comfort to those burdened by sin?

Answered in 1 source

The gospel offers comfort by assuring sinners that Christ has taken the punishment for their sins.

The gospel is good news for the weary and burdened sinner. It announces that Jehovah will save, and this truth shifts our focus from despair over our sin to hope in God's mercy (Nehemiah 8:7). Understanding that Jesus bore our sins and suffered God's wrath in our place provides comfort beyond measure. Rather than being crushed by the weight of the law, believers can rest in the assurance that Christ's righteousness is imputed to us. This comfort leads to joy, affirmation of God's love, and a motivation to share the gospel with others who are still in need of this hope.
