How does the gospel set us free from sin?

Answered in 1 source

The gospel sets us free by proclaiming the message of Christ's redemptive work, leading us from bondage to liberty (John 8:36).

The power of the gospel is inherently linked to the message of Christ, who liberates us from the bondage of sin. As proclaimed in John 8:36, 'If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.' This freedom occurs when the gospel is preached, revealing who Christ is and the grace He offers. It awakens an understanding of our desperate state and the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice for salvation. The gospel not only informs us of our need for a Savior but also transforms our heart, allowing us to respond in faith to His call. Through the message of the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit, we are delivered from our sinful prison and empowered to walk in newness of life.
