How does the Holy Spirit apply the work of Christ to believers?

Answered in 2 sources

The Holy Spirit applies Christ's work by regenerating hearts, enabling faith, and applying the redemption purchased at the cross.

The application of Christ's work to believers is a primary function of the Holy Spirit. According to Ephesians 2:1, the Holy Spirit quickens those who are dead in their trespasses and brings them to life through regeneration. He creates faith in the hearts of sinners, enabling them to believe in the Gospel and accept Christ's redemptive work (Romans 10:17). Furthermore, the Holy Spirit applies the blood of Christ to the hearts of believers, cleansing their conscience (Hebrews 9:14) and granting them a new identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). This means that the believer's assurance of salvation and their ongoing spiritual transformation are deeply rooted in the active ministry of the Holy Spirit, who continuously reveals the righteousness of Christ and empowers believers to pursue holiness.
