How does the Holy Spirit comfort believers?

Answered in 6 sources

The Holy Spirit comforts believers by pointing them to Christ and assuring them of their status as children of God.

In Romans 8:14-16, we see that the Holy Spirit leads us and confirms our identity as God's children. The term 'parakletos' used for the Holy Spirit means one who comes alongside to support and comfort. He does this by reminding us of Christ's love and the finished work of redemption, which provides a solid foundation for our hope. The Holy Spirit alleviates fears stemming from the law and instead instills a spirit of adoption, allowing believers to experience comfort and peace as they are assured of their reconciliation with God through Christ.
