How does the law relate to our need for grace?

Answered in 1 source

The law reveals our sinfulness and inadequacy, showing us our need for grace through Christ.

The law serves a vital role in highlighting our needs. It functions as a mirror reflecting our shortcomings and inability to achieve righteousness on our own. As Hatfield states, the law demands perfection, but since we are all fallen and sinful, it ultimately leads us to recognize our desperate need for the grace offered through Jesus Christ. This is consistent with what Paul teaches in Galatians, where he likens the law to a schoolmaster that teaches us to rely on faith in Christ. It teaches us that grace is what enables true love and righteousness, which the law cannot provide on its own.
