How does the old covenant lead to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The old covenant serves as a type and shadow that points to Christ as the ultimate fulfillment of God's promises.

The old covenant was designed to lead sinners to Christ by serving as types and shadows of the coming Savior. Laws and ceremonies were not an end in themselves but pointed towards the true fulfillment found in Jesus. As noted in the Book of Hebrews, the sacrificial system and various elements of the Mosaic law were intended to illustrate humanity's need for a perfect sacrifice, which Christ ultimately provided. Upon His coming and through His redemptive work, the old covenant's relevance diminished, replaced by the new covenant, which offers true righteousness and relationship with God.
