How does the priesthood of Christ differ from the Levitical priesthood?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's priesthood is eternal and provides a single, sufficient sacrifice, unlike the Levitical priesthood which required repeated offerings.

The priesthood of Christ is fundamentally different from the Levitical priesthood in several significant ways. First, as Hebrews 7:27 and 10:10 affirm, Christ offered Himself as a single sacrifice for sin, eliminating the need for continuous offerings like those performed by Levitical priests. Second, the Levitical priests were sinners whose ministry was limited by their own mortality, while Christ is described as a Melchizedekian priest—sinless and eternal, suggesting an intransmissible priesthood (Hebrews 7:17). Therefore, the one-time sacrifice of Christ not only fulfills the requirements of the law but also establishes an everlasting covenant based on better promises, providing believers direct access to God.
