How does the Sabbath point to Jesus?

Answered in 1 source

The Sabbath represents the rest found in Christ, who completed the work of redemption.

The Sabbath's significance extends beyond mere physical rest; it typifies the spiritual rest that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The weekly Sabbath served as a reminder of God's finished work of creation and of deliverance from bondage. However, in the New Covenant, believers find their true rest in Jesus, who declared 'It is finished' (John 19:30) as He accomplished redemption on the cross. Hebrews 4 emphasizes that believers enter into a rest that Jesus provides, ceasing from their labor to earn salvation. The Sabbath observances of the Old Testament were shadows pointing to a greater reality fulfilled in Christ, who invites all who labor and are heavy laden to come to Him for rest (Matthew 11:28).
