How does the story of Mephibosheth relate to God's grace?

Answered in 1 source

Mephibosheth's story is a powerful picture of God's grace, illustrating how unmerited favor transforms lives.

The story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 serves as a vivid representation of God's sovereign grace. As a descendant of Saul, Mephibosheth would normally be in danger due to the customs of kingships. Instead, he finds unexpected kindness and restoration from David, who acts on the basis of his covenant with Jonathan. This reflects how God acts in grace towards sinners, not at all because of their righteousness, but solely based on His covenant of redemption in Christ. Just as David called Mephibosheth and brought him to his table, God calls us, undeserving and spiritually lame, into fellowship with Himself for Christ’s sake, providing a rich picture of grace that ensures our continuance at His table.
