How does total depravity affect human will?

Answered in 1 source

Total depravity means our will is ensnared by sin, making us unable to choose God without His grace.

Total depravity impacts the human will by rendering it incapable of choosing good in a spiritual sense. In Romans 3:10-12, the Scriptures declare that there is none who understands or seeks after God, indicating that unregenerate individuals do not have the capacity to do so. This condition reflects a heart and mind tainted by the sin inherited from Adam, leading to a disposition towards evil rather than righteousness. Without the new birth, orchestrated by the Holy Spirit, there can be no genuine desire or ability to seek God. Recognizing this restrains any notions of human free will that can attain salvation or righteousness apart from God's intervention.
