How does unbelief affect a righteous person's standing with God?

Answered in 1 source

Unbelief does not disqualify a righteous person from God's love; it may prompt discipline but cannot change their status as elect.

Even righteous individuals, like Zacharias, can experience moments of unbelief, as seen in Luke 1:18. Unbelief can lead to distress and confusion, yet it does not invalidate their righteousness or their acceptance in God's sight. God's grace prevails, and such failures serve to remind us that our salvation rests not on our unwavering faith but on Christ's faithfulness. As Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:13, even when we are faithless, He remains faithful. This demonstrates that our election and righteousness are secure regardless of our fluctuating faith.
