How does worldly mindedness affect our spiritual life?

Answered in 1 source

Worldly mindedness distracts us from God’s truth and can lead to misplaced treasures that do not reflect our faith (Matthew 6:23).

Worldly mindedness is a significant threat to a believer’s spiritual life. Jesus warns in Matthew 6:23 that if one's 'eye is evil,' the whole body will be filled with darkness. This metaphor illustrates how a focus on worldly treasures and pursuits can distort one’s understanding of spiritual truth. When our priorities align with worldly desires, we may become blind to the realities of God’s kingdom, compromising our faith and resulting in spiritual darkness. In contrast, seeking the light found in Christ and His kingdom allows believers to see clearly, aligning their hearts and lives with the eternal values God desires.
