How much should a Christian give according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible encourages Christians to give according to how they have been blessed, not merely to follow a set percentage.

Rather than adhering to the Old Testament standard of tithing, which is often seen as a baseline rather than an endpoint, New Testament Christians are encouraged to give according to their prosperity and as led by the Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 16:2, Paul states, 'on the first day of the week, let each of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper.' This means that giving should be a reflection of gratitude for what God has provided and an opportunity for generosity rather than a legalistic requirement. Ultimately, the disposition of the heart and the abundance of grace in our lives should guide our generosity.
