How should a church view the sermon and the preaching of the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

Sermons are a means through which Christ speaks and edifies His people; they must be received with respect and attentiveness.

In 1 Peter 1:23-25, we are reminded of the Word of God as the means by which believers are born again and sustained in faith. The sermons preached by pastors serve as a critical avenue through which Christ reveals Himself and communicates His truth to His people. As congregants, treating the preached Word with respect means being attentive, actively engaging with the teaching, and reflecting on its application to our lives. The centrality of preaching in the life of the church emphasizes its importance for spiritual nourishment, as it is through this divinely ordained means that believers are equipped, challenged, and reminded of the gospel's power and truth.
